Parents Alliance Employment Project (www.parents-alliance.org), founded in 1982, was staffed solely by parent volunteers who became proactive when the only employment option for their developmentally disabled young adult was a sheltered workshop. They fought for mainstreaming their children in the public school system and community integration. Parents Alliance Employment Project envisions a world based on the philosophy that all individuals have the right to work in the communities they live.
